The UMHA Special Activities committee presents Bus Tours and Walking Tours that are interesting and fact-filled experiences. The tours are a regular part of the Association's schedule and are open to the public for a nominal fee to cover the cost of printed materials and bus rental. Check the current Programs schedule for upcoming tours.
Walking tours may also be arranged for special occasions such as student classes and groups of 20 or more. For group bus tours the minimum required is 35 persons. If you want more information or are contemplating either type of tour for a group, please contact the Association 6 months ahead of your anticipated date.
In addition to our arranged tours, we also have an annual picnic in June and a formal dinner and awards presentation in February. Contact the Meetings & Programs committee for more information on either.
At every general program, we have a guest speaker give a presentation. Each program has a different topic spanning all eras of local history, from entertainment to literature to sports to the military. The current schedule of lectures and programs at our monthly programs can be found on our Programs page.
This annual event began in 1998 and provides an occasion for members and friends to join together in a slightly formal setting, to enjoy an excellent dinner and conversation, and be entertained by an inspirational and educational speaker.
The dinner takes the place of the regular February public meeting and also includes our annual awards ceremony. Invitations are sent to the membership a month prior to the dinner. Members are encouraged to bring family and friends. For more information about our past dinners, please visit the Annual Dinners page.
This annual affair is an opportunity for members and friends to get together informally and to meet people representing other societies from surrounding communities. It is a come-when-you-can, leave-when-you-must outing. Refreshments are provided at a nominal fee. The picnic is normally held at the Boileau Farmstead in early summer. Check the current Programs schedule for the exact details.
For more information on the farmstead itself, please visit The Friends of Boileau.
